Dorcas Women's Circle

The Dorcas Circle takes its name from the beloved woman in Acts 12. According to Acts, Dorcas “was devoted to good works and acts of charity.” Dorcas Circle is a real working arm of women of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod and has been a force in the life of Hope Lutheran Church for 49 years. Dorcas Circle meets at the church the second Wednesday of each month in the afternoon.

The ladies of the Dorcas Circle assist in preparing meals for funerals at church as well as calling on the sick and elderly. They have many ongoing projects with the most significant one at present assembling together a vast number of historical photos and printed materials of Hope Lutheran Church’s early years and preserving them in an archival collection.

 LWML

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is a very active ministry of Hope Lutheran Church and will be celebrating 50 years of service this November.  Affiliated with the Capitol Zone, Texas District and the National LWML, the purpose of LWML is to equip all women of the church through service, education, inspiration and to renew us in our relationship with the love of God and our fellowman.
Hope regular LWML meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm. with all women of the church invited to attend the special monthly program and meeting.
LWML takes an active role in Christian Service of food and assistance to members with various needs.  Other areas of service are with the Altar, Card Display, Christian Greetings, Kitchen, Nursery, a Prayer Chain, Mission service, and available to offer workers to hostess receptions at a nominal fee. We are currently participating in the Annual Project Comfort for Lutheran World Relief.

Please join us and share some fun, friendship and love with the Lutheran Women in Mission of Hope!

Prayers and Squares (Quilters)

The Prayer Quilt Ministry, called "Prayers & Squares" began in 1992 at Hope United Methodist Church in Rancho Bernardo, California.  Since then the ministry has expanded to include chapters in Lutheran, Methodist, United Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Catholic, Episcopal and non-denominational churches across the country.  Hope Lutheran Church, Austin, Texas joined this group in 2002.

The idea behind these quilts is simple, yet powerful.  A heavy thread is used to take stitches through the quilt layers, and the ends are left free to be tied with a square knot.  As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is offered for someone in special need - someone who has asked us to pray for them.  The quilt is then given to that person.  What makes each quilt so special is not the pattern, color or workmanship, but the fact that prayer is symbolically tied into each one.  These comforters are a statement of faith, and a testimony to our belief in God and in the power of prayer.

Hope's quilters meet every other Saturday morning, from 9 AM to 12 PM, in the Multi-purpose room.
