Verline Dorothy McKeown passed peacefully at home to be with her Lord on October 8, 2015. She was born in La Grange, Texas on September 3, 1935 to Edwin and Clara Zimmerman. Verline married Charles Calvin McKeown December 23, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Austin.
After living as a United States Air Force wife, she returned to Austin in 1972 to be closer to her family and continue raising her children alongside her husband.
She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Austin since 1972. She was a member of the LWML and Dorcas Circle. She was an avid quilter and was a member of the church quilting guild. She was also a member of the Travis County Agricultural Extension Sprinkler Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brother, Edward Zimmerman.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Abel of Austin, son Robert McKeown of Cedar Park, son Michael McKeown of Lago Vista, grandchildren, Kristine Gregg and husband Tim of San Antonio, Steven McKeown and fiancé Ashley Conger, Sarah DeHart and husband Shawn, Asilynn McKeown and great-grandson Bryce Alan DeHart, and her sister Dorothy Lehman of Round Rock.
The family wishes to thank Brookdale Personalized Care and Brookdale at Home for their care and support, also to Dr. B.J. Smith for his friendship and advice.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the evening, Monday, the 12th of October at Cook-Walden Funeral Home; 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. Austin TX 78752.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 in the morning on Tuesday, the 13th of October 2015, at Hope Lutheran Church, 6414 North Hampton, Austin, TX 78723 with Pastor Peter Heckmann officiating. Refreshments will be served before the funeral service. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX.
