Verda Laverne Krause passed quietly into the kingdom of Heaven on December 8, 2016 at 5:30 am in Austin. She was 90 years old, coming to this earth on December 21, 1925.

Verda was born near Round Top, TX (now Round Top Retreat), to Alfred and Delta (Albers) Spies. She was involved with many organizations including the Saengerrunde, Girl Scouts, Vacation Bible School, the LWML at Hope Lutheran, and the Sprinkle TEEA of Travis County, where she was a Texas Treasure Award winner and Outstanding Member. Verda also participated in the Sons of Hermann Lodge 120, the SPJST Lodge 18, RSVP, and AARP Chapter 2700. She enjoyed volunteering at St. David’s Hospital, and with the Prayers and Squares group at Hope Lutheran. In her “spare time” she went dancing, on daily walks in the neighborhood, and belonging to the Reagan High School Booster Club. She took joy in attending all the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Verda would often be found working with her flowers or in her vegetable garden.

Verda lived in several places in Texas including Carmine near Round Top, Houston, Warrenton, Fayetteville, Waldeck, Ellinger, LaGrange, South and North Austin, and in Buckner Villas. During her life she attended Bethlehem Lutheran in Round Top, and in Austin, St. John’s Lutheran and Hope Lutheran.
