October 5—Deuteronomy 5:1-21; Matthew 8:18-34
Deut 5–Do not use the Lord your God’s name as if it were of no significance.
Matt 8–”Even the winds and the lake obey Him!”
Deuteronomy – (At that time I stood between the Lord and you to declare to you the word of the Lord, because you were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain.)
Matthew – “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”
Deut 5:7 “You shall have no other gods before me.”
Matt 8: 22 “…Follow me…”
October 4—Deuteronomy 4:21-40; Matthew 8:1-17
Deut 4–You will see the Lord your God from there, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and all your being.
Matt 8–”Go, it will be done for you just as you have believed.”
Deuteronomy – But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Matthew – “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.”
Deut 4:29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Matt 8:17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”
October 3—Deuteronomy 4:1-20; Matthew 7:13-29
Deut 4–After all, is there any great nation that has gods as close to it as the Lord our God is close to us whenever we call to Him?
Matt 7—”But the gate that leads to life is narrow and the road difficult, so few people find it.”
Deuteronomy – Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
Matthew – But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
Deut 4:9 “…Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”
Matt 7:15,16 “Watch our for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them…”
October 2—Deuteronomy 3:1-29; Matthew 7:1-12
Deut 3– Don’t be afraid of them because the Lord your God is the one who will be fighting for you.
Matt 7—“Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged. You’ll receive the same judgment you give. Whatever you deal out will be dealt out to you.”
Deut. – But because of you the Lord was angry with me and would not listen to me. “That is enough,” the Lord said. “Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.
Matthew – So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Deut 3:21 …”You have seen with your own eyes all that the Lord your god has done…”
Matt 7: 1,2 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. for in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you”
October 1—Deuteronomy 2:16-37; Matthew 6:16-34
Deut. – For the Lord your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate in order to give him into your hands, as he has now done.
Matt. – Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
Deut 2:36 …not one town was too strong for us. The Lord our God gave us all of them.
Matt 6:33,34 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
September 30—Deuteronomy 1:37—2:15; Matthew 6:1-15
Deut 2– It took us a total of thirty-eight years to go from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the Zered ravine.
Matt 6– But when you pray, go to your room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is present in that secret place.
Deuteronomy – Then the Lord said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any part of their land. I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a possession.”
Matthew – For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Deut 2:36 ” …The Lord our God gave us all of them.”
Matt 6:1 “Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”
September 29—Deuteronomy 1:19-36; Matthew 5:21-48
Deut 1–’It is a good land that the Lord our God is giving us.’
Matt 5–”love your enemies and pray for this who harass you so that you will be acting as children of your Father who is in heaven.”
Deuteronmy – the God of your ancestors, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged
Matthew – If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Deut 1:29,30 …”Do not be terrified; do not be afraid…The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you…”
Matt 5:44 “…pray for those who persecute you,”
