September 21—Nehemiah 5:1-16; 6:1-9, 15-16; 1 Timothy 4:1-16
Pastor
Neh 5–”Ought you not to walk in the fear of our God to prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies?”
1 Tim 4–godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come
Carl
Nehemiah – When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.
1 Timothy – Watch your life and doctrine closely.

Neh 5:13 At this the whole assembly said, “Amen,” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised.
I Tim 4:15,16 “Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”

September 20—Nehemiah 4:7-23; 1 Timothy 3:1-16

Neh 4–we prayed to our God and set a guard as a protection against them day and night.
1 Tim 3–the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth

Nehemiah – “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
1 Timothy – He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels,
was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

Neh 4:9 “But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.”
I Tim 3:16 Beyond all question the mystery of godliness is great: He appareled in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

September 19—Nehemiah 2:11-20; 4:1-6; 1 Timothy 2:1-15

Neh 2–The king gave me what I asked, for the gracious power of my God was with me.
1 Tim 1–Sound teaching agrees with the glorious gospel of the blessed God that has been trusted to me.

Nehemiah – So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.
1 Timothy – God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Neh 2:18 …so they began this good work.
I Tim 2:1-6 “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone–for kings and all those authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. September 17—2 Chronicles 36:1-23; Colossians 4:1-18

2 Chron 36–He did what was evil in the Lord’s eyes.
Col 4–”See to it that you complete the ministry that you received in the Lord.”

2 Chronicles – “‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Colossians – Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Col 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

September 16—2 Chronicles 35:1-7, 16-25; Colossians 3:1-25

2 Chron 35–Not since the days of the prophet Samuel had such a Passover been celebrated in Israel.
Col 3–Think about the things above and not things on earth.

2 Chronicles – “What quarrel is there, king of Judah, between you and me? It is not you I am attacking at this time, but the house with which I am at war. God has told me to hurry; so stop opposing God, who is with me, or he will destroy you.”
Colossians – And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

2Chron 34–He did what was right in the Lord’s eyes and walked in the ways of his ancestor David.
Col 2–The circumcision of Christ is realized in the stripping away of the whole self dominated by sin.

2 Chronicles – Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord. Now I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and on those who live here.’”
Colossians – See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ.
