Hope member Dolores “Dee” Woodard passed away on May 23, 2015. She was born on December 28, 1926 in Bakersfield, California to Jeff and Helen Halsell. During her younger years her father worked in construction so they moved frequently eventually ending up in San Antonio, Texas. Dolores graduated from Brackenridge High School where she was a member of the Purple Jackets. After High school, she married Billy L. Woodard in 1944. Billy enlisted in the Navy and they moved to Kansas. When Billy was stationed in the Philippines, Dolores returned to San Antonio where she worked for Western Union and Great Western Insurance Company. During her lifetime she worked at a number of different things, including being secretary to the head anesthesiologist at the Robert B. Green Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Other things she dabbled in were real estate, costume design and she owned her own electronics shop. In 1946 she had a son, Thomas Ray, in 1948 she welcomed a daughter Karen Ann. Five years later she expanded the family with daughter Sandra Lee. Two years later she completed her family when Daniel Jeff was born. Dee was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and The Kiwanis. She had been a member of Hope since 1987. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.”
